A chicken wings joint in central DeKalb County failed its health inspection this week after a report cited unsafe food temperatures and employees failing to properly wash their hands.
Atlanta’s Best Wings, on the corner of Memorial and Columbia drives in the Belvedere Park neighborhood, scored a 55 after its Monday inspection. It serves wings as well as subs, chicken and fish entrees.
In the last two years, the restaurant passed its inspections, scoring an 87 in 2018 and a 90 in 2017, according to the DeKalb County Board of Health’s report.
The report said raw meat, including bacon and chicken, was not separated from ready-to-eat food. And foods that need to stay cold, such as dairy and meat, were kept at warmer temperatures, the report stated.
A cook did not wash his hands after managing raw beef and then touching his hair, according to the report. Some food was also stored on the floor.

Several of the violations were corrected during the inspection.
James Yang, one of the managers of the location, said he was “surprised” to receive the failing grade, but said a refrigerator had recently broken.
Atlanta’s Best Wings ordered two new fridges on Wednesday that should keep the food properly cool, Yang said. He expects to correct the mistakes and pass the county’s follow-up inspection.
