It took one DeKalb County restaurant three tries to pass its health inspection over the past few weeks.
AmeriBistro in Stone Mountain received scores of 51 and 55 on its Oct. 24 and 31 inspections, respectively. According to DeKalb County Board of Health records, it passed with an 87 last Friday, Nov. 1.
Some of the violations were similar for both inspections, including food that was holding at temperatures higher than what is required. During inspections, a health official noticed that the microwave was “unclean to sight and heavily soiled with food debris.”
The bistro is located in the Hairston Village Shopping Center at the corner of Memorial Drive and N. Hairston Road, near the city of Stone Mountain.
During the first inspection, an employee was seen handling raw beef and vegetables without changing their gloves, according to the health board. The restaurant also offered catfish on its menu, but served swai fish — another type of white fish — instead.
In the second report, an inspector saw “several flies and gnats throughout kitchen area, particularly near microwave and above fryer.” The walls and floor in the kitchen were also “heavily soiled” with grease and food debris. AmeriBistro was ordered to do a “deep clean” of the kitchen on a regular basis.
Almost all of the violations were corrected during the Friday inspection, when AmeriBistro got a passing score.
A store manager did not return a request for comment Friday, and could not be reached Monday morning.
