GDOT has approved the permit necessary for Peachtree Corners to begin building the Peachtree Parkway Pedestrian Bridge. Construction will continue for the next 14 to 16 months until completion.
The steel, thrust arch bridge will connect the city’s multi-use path between the Town Center and Forum shopping center. The design of the bridge is a tribute to Jones Bridge, which stretched across the Chattahoochee River and served as a namesake for many of the amenities and roads in the Peachtree Corners community.
Concrete barricades have been installed along north and southbound Peachtree Parkway to provide protection between the construction work zone and vehicular traffic. Lane closures or traffic interruptions are not anticipated until the structural towers being manufactured are delivered next spring. Any construction activities that do require lane closures will be kept to a minimum during off-peak hours only, and no permanent or long-term lane closures are expected.
