A beer, wine and Sunday sales package license for Powder Springs Mart was denied by a 4-1 vote on Oct. 9 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

Opposed to the denial was Commissioner Bob Weatherford.

The store was proposed to be built on vacant land at 1949 Powder Springs Road SW, Marietta with Mahezabeen Jasani as the licensee.

On June 19, the Cobb County Business License Division Manager denied the license application since the business was too close to a residence, according to county ordinance.

Additionally, opposition letters were received by the Business License Division.

Some residents at the Oct. 9 meeting expressed opposition due to the close proximity of churches - especially the new Worship With Wonders Church that is scheduled to open next door later this year, a middle school, the Milford Chase community, other stores selling alcoholic beverages and additional traffic.

After Jasani appealed this decision to the Cobb County License Review Board on July 26, the board also denied the license.

Then Jasani appealed the License Review Board’s decision to the Cobb Board of Commissioners which was tabled from Sept. 11 to Oct. 9 at the request of Jasani.
