As temperatures have started to flirt with the fall, you might be thinking: “OH NO, WHAT EVER WILL I DO WITH MY GARDEN?”
But it’s going to be fine, turn your caps lock off (please) because the Smith-Gilbert Gardens has your back.
The Kennesaw botanical haven located at 2382 Pine Mountain Road is holding its first fall tree sale on Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Admission into the garden is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors along with military members and Kennesaw State University students, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and any younger is free.
There will be 150 trees of 15 to 20 varieties, said Anna Bell King, visitor services coordinator at Smith-Gilbert.
She said they’re holding this sale for the first time because they recently acquired an unusually large number of trees.
“We want to only offer the rare and unusual, so we sourced our trees from rare wholesale plant nurseries,” said Lisa Bartlett, garden manager.
Barlett said they wanted to have the sale now because is a great time of year to plant trees. These specimens came from Hidden Hollow Nursery in Tennessee, she said.
For a sampling of what trees will be available, look on the garden website.
The trees will be in containers of 5, 10 and 15 gallons with prices ranging from $75 to $120.
Also, there's a way to get in early: Smith-Gilbert members (one-year membership price starts at $50) get in the day before from 4 to 6 p.m. and the day of the event an hour early. Members also get a 10 percent discount.
