The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners this week named its fire and EMS training center after longtime Cherokee firefighter and departmental assistant chief Eddie Robinson.

Fire chief Tim Prather lauded Robinson for his firefighter training efforts and for his help making the center a reality. The newly renamed Chief Eddie Robinson Fire and EMS Training Center first opened in December 2013 and grand opening ceremonies for phase 2 including completion of the training building containing classrooms and offices is set for later this month.

Robinson’s been a Cherokee firefighter since 1999 and has been assistant chief in charge of day-to-day operations since 2011.
