A broken water main caused more than 80 gallons of sewage to spill into a DeKalb County creek over the weekend, officials said.

The sewage discharged into Cobbs Creek off Chestnut Hill Circle in unincorporated DeKalb, according to a report from the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management.

Crews initially described it as a “major” spill, though a follow-up report altered the designation to “minor.”

The broken main caused a 4-inch sewer lateral near the 2100 block of Chestnut Hill Circle to spill, according to the report. (A sewer lateral is an underground pipe that connects a home to a sewer line.)

Several hours after the spill started, crews repaired the broken main.
