Sen. Nunn receives new award from Georgia Tech

Former Sen. Sam Nunn will be the first recipient of the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage, Georgia Tech officials announced Friday.

The award honors those who advocate for "clear moral principles" and have affected public debate "at the risk of their own careers, livelihoods and even their lives," officials said. It comes with a $100,000 prize.

Nunn served as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"While some individuals talk about achieving world peace, Sam Nunn has actively pursued this vision and created a legacy that continues to reap results long after his exit from public office," Tech President G.P. "Bud" Peterson said in a news release.

Nunn is scheduled to receive the award during a luncheon scheduled for March 15.
