Hank Huckaby officially becomes chancellor of the University System of Georgia Friday.
The State Board of Regents hired the former lawmaker in May. Since then he has sat in meetings to prepare for his new job.
Huckaby, who has worked for several state colleges and governors, already selected a vice chancellor for fiscal affairs and an executive vice chancellor to oversee several departments. He plans to have a vice chancellor for academic affairs by Jan. 1.
Former chancellor Erroll Davis starts as interim superintendent for Atlanta Public Schools Friday.
