Atlanta Councilman Antonio Brown is scheduled to unveil a mural honoring the Rev. Joseph E. Boone, former Councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr., and residents of Brown’s council District 3 on Monday, at 537 Joseph E. Boone Boulevard.

“This mural is a beautification project for our community that’s aimed at providing a strong sense of pride and inspiration in our district,” Brown said in statement.

According to a press release, artist Joseph McKinney designed the mural, known as “The Seeds that are Planted.” Other local artists helped complete the project.

“The mural depicts one continuous line connecting the past struggles, sacrifices and triumphs of our ancestors to our present-day reality,” the release said.

The late Ivory Lee Young Jr. died in 2018. Brown replaced him on the council after winning a special election last year.

Boone marched alongside the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s and organized demonstrations that led to the integration of lunch counters and department stores in Atlanta.
