The Avery, a 180-unit apartment building headed to Underground Atlanta, is among a number of projects Invest Atlanta supported Thursday with tax breaks and grants.

Plans to renovate downtown's Medical Arts Building, construct two new towers in Midtown and build close to 500 new affordable housing units are getting some help from Atlanta's economic development arm.

At its Thursday meeting, Invest Atlanta approved tax breaks and grants for a raft of projects that will bring new housing downtown, add more office space in Midtown and create greenspace near Vine City and English Avenue, two of the city's poorest neighborhoods.
