Clayton County Economic Development Director Grant Wainscott is leaving to join the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

Grant Wainscott will recruit technology firms to the region in his new job. He will be director of technology for the chamber’s expansion team. He starts at the metro chamber in mid-January.

“I’ve worked closely with him for the last two years. He’s done a tremendous job helping with our growth in Clayton,” Commission Chairman Jeff Turner said Tuesday. “His knowledge, experience and connections will be greatly missed. I wish him the best.”

In his tenure with Clayton, Wainscott was responsible for overseeing a quarter of a billion dollars in development and redevelopment projects. In addition to heading economic development, Wainscott helped develop the film, sports and entertainment office. He also helped the county land several key projects, including Chime Solutions, which is expected to bring about 1,200 jobs to the area when it opens soon. The Chime deal is one of the largest economic development deals in the county in about two decades. Wainscott also worked with the Clayton chamber and Georgia Tech to develop an economic development strategic plan announced last year.

Deputy economic development director Bill Keir will serve as interim director until Wainscott’s replacement is found, Turner said.
