Clayton County’s new leadership continued its overhaul of top government, creating two key jobs to reign in county finances and exert greater control over the county’s nearly two dozen departments.

In a 3-2 vote, commissioners approved the creation of chief operating officer and chief financial officer positions. The COO will earn about $130,000 a year while the CFO’s job pays about $104,000 a year. The board jettisoned the chief of staff position which has been vacant since Alex Cohilas retired at the end of 2011. Tuesday’s actions follows last week’s ouster of county manager Wade Starr.
