Gwinnett to hold redistricting hearing Thursday

Dec 3, 2014

Gwinnett County officials have scheduled a hearing Thursday evening to hear from parents and community leaders about plans that would result in about 13,000 students attending new or different schools in the 2015-16 school year.

The hearing is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the school district’s headquarters, 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwanee.

Gwinnett is changing the boundaries for schools in much of the central and western parts of the county. School officials say student population has grown in Gwinnett in recent years and they want to ease overcrowding in some schools. Some parents object to the changes, and many of them have said they will voice their opposition to the redistricting plans at the hearing.

Gwinnett officials have made some revisions to the maps, based on suggestions from residents and transportation officials. The maps are on the district's website, www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
