Katharine F. Lemansky, 45, is facing charges of animal cruelty in North Carolina after she posted a photo of a dog with duct tape around its muzzle on Facebook under the user name Katie Brown, of South Daytona.. She has been ordered to appear in Wake County, N.C., court on Dec. 14, police said.
Lemansky was cited about 4:30 p.m. Monday at a home where she was visiting friends, Cary Police Capt. Randall Rhyne said. She told police her residence is in South Daytona.
Lemansky had her two dogs with her, and animal control officers said the dog who had been duct-taped - Brown - did not show signs of hair loss where the tape had been. Officers said both dogs were well cared for and Lemansky was allowed to keep them with her.
Backlash over the photo was overwhelming in Florida.
South Daytona Police Department Chief Ron Wright said the overwhelming response slowed down their investigation.
