July 26, 2019

A northwest Georgia man died Thursday after he was hit by a train in Missouri, according to several media reports.

Donald R. Crowder, 43, of Tunnel Hill, was walking near a railroad track west of Hannibal, Mo., just after 6:45 p.m. when he was hit by the train, the Hannibal-based Herald-Whig reported. He had been walking on private property.

He was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., where he died about two hours later, the newspaper reported. No other details have been released, and it’s unclear whether the train’s conductor will be charged.

The incident was handled by the Marion County, Mo., Sheriff’s Office, Ralls County, Mo., Sheriff’s Office and Hannibal Fire Department, the Herald-Whig reported. Hannibal is in northeastern Missouri along the Mississippi River, and its city limits border Illinois.

Tunnell Hill is in Whitfield County near Dalton.
