The head of the parks and recreation department for Douglasville is facing a theft charge, authorities say.

Bennett W. Oliver, 52, was booked into the Douglas County jail Thursday on a charge of theft by taking, records show. He is no longer in jail.

Oliver’s arrest was in connection with the suspected theft of kitchen equipment from West Pines Golf Course, according to the incident report from the Douglasville Police Department.

The department maintains an 18-hole golf course, seven parks that include baseball fields, complexes for football, soccer and tennis, community centers and other facilities, according to the city’s website. Adult and youth sports, educational classes, day camps and special events are also offered by the department.
