A 42-year-old Atlanta woman was killed Monday afternoon when she stepped into traffic in West Midtown, police said.

Tonya Grier was hit by a car about 11 a.m. at the intersection of 10th Street and Northside Drive near the Georgia Tech campus. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stayed on scene to talk to investigators and is not facing charges, according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer Steve Avery.

During the investigation, police shut down the northbound lanes of Northside Drive, causing hours of traffic delays.
