New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell will not take the field for the first time this season on Sunday against the New York Jets.
Mitchell has been on injured reserve since Sept. 7, but he did practice for the first time during the regular season this week. However, he still has not progressed enough to see game action. The Patriots did not activate him off of injured reserve, according to The Boston Globe's Ben Volin.
Mitchell was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He started to find his stride during the second half of that season. That time of the year is when he caught all 4 of his touchdowns passes, and he also tallied more than 80 yards receiving in a game twice.
Injury limited Mitchell during the playoffs, but he had a huge game in the Super Bowl, catching 6 passes for 70 yards.
