The Basil Limonada from La Tavola in Virginia-Highland is available all year around, but I particularly love it in the summer. Will they share the recipe so I can make it when I can’t get to the restaurant? — Ella Boyd, Sandy Springs
This cocktail was created by La Tavola’s bartender Kris Zimmermann. She says creating it was simple. “I was looking for a summery porch cocktail and I’ve always loved lemonade, It was really that simple.” Her family is originally from Tremonti in Campagnia, Italy. “It’s a quaint little town just above the coast from the Amalfi Coast and I grew up with lemon trees and basil in my backyard!”
La Tavola is now open for dine-in and patio dining Wednesday through Sundays and take out is available via online ordering.
La Tavola Sour Mix
Make simple syrup by combining 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat and stir until sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and cool. What you don’t need for this recipe will keep in your refrigerator for up to a month. Use the extra simple syrup, or this sour mix, to sweeten your next glass of iced tea. Or combine 3/4 cup sour mix with 1/4 cup Lemon Vodka for a fabulous spiked citrus-ade. Garnish with a slice of lemon.
