Doggie hotels worth a visit

If he could talk, Fido would tell you his idea of a vacation isn't a road trip with the kids in the car. Instead, while the family's away, arrange a relaxing stay-cation for your pet at a facility where they'll be exercised and well cared for. Here's a brief look at five doggie hotels around the metro area.

Intown

Kirkwood Bark and Lounge

2006 Hosea Williams Drive; 404-377-1844, www.barkandlounge.net

Pamper your pooch in a $45 per night suite with a doggy couch, off-the-floor bowls and see-through doors where they can be constantly supervised. There are also kennels large enough to share at $35 per night; $58 for two.

Paws Playhouse

2979 N. Druid Hills Road; 404-633-5555, www.pawsplayhouse.com

Tucked behind the Publix at Toco Hills, this facility features two spacious indoor and outdoor play areas and large individual kennels. Along with your pet's food, toys and blankets, bring your picture so Fido won't forget your face. Overnight rates are $35 for one pet; $20 for the second.

Cobb

Lucky Dog Lounge

347 Austin Avenue, Marietta; 770-425-2364, www.luckydoglounge.net

This spot where "dogs meet dogs" gives furry guests the run of a 1950s bungalow that has been transformed into a dog house. Pets unwind on the couches and dog beds and nap on the front porch or in the back yard. Music and the "Animal Planet" play every evening. Boarding priced from $28 to $32, depending on size.

Gwinnett

Funnybones

4 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn; 770-925-9030, www.funnybonesfordogs.com

In the evening, each pet retires to his own play pen with toys and food from home. Rates, based on weight, range from $24 to $30. A trial day is required before an initial stay to make sure each dog is sociable.
