The Archdiocese of Atlanta will recognize the men and women who are first on the scene during disasters or routine incidents.
The third annual “Blue Mass” for public safety officials and first responders will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Christ the King,
2699 Peachtree Road N.E.
The archdiocese will also honor those first responders who died in the terrorist attacks on 9-11.
The Blue Mass tradition began in in the United States in 1934, when Father Thomas Dade of the Archdiocese of Baltimore formed the Catholic Police and Fireman’s Society, and celebrated the first Blue Mass for police officers and firemen that year.

First responders will also be honored by Jim Ellis Automotive in Kennesaw. The auto dealership has invited first responders to an appreciation breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 14. The event will be held at Jim Ellis VW Kennesaw, 950 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway.
Additionally, any first responder who stops by during the event can enter for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card.
