PERSONAL PRAYER SPACE
In the three-week interactive class Creating a Sacred Space in Your Home, participants will learn how to incorporate principles like unity, proportion and balance. Led by Pebbles Nix, interior designer and member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, the class will focus on design elements coupled with the power of prayer. "We all have family activities, work obligations and planned events everyday, but we need to have a place to slow it down — a place where we can feel God's presence and have some solitude and prayer time," Pebbles said. The course begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and costs $20 per person, including materials and snacks. 3180 Peachtree Road N.W., Atlanta. prumc.org.
HER STORY
Many people are familiar with the stories of matriarchs like Sarah and Rebecca in the Bible, but what about Bityah and Zeresh? What did they do? Beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 16, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta will offer a 15-week course called Not Yet Ready for Prime Time — Women of the Bible. According to Shelley Buxbaum, director of the Lisa F. Brill Institute of Jewish Learning at MJCCA, in this course participants will gain a new perspective about the significant roles that a variety of lesser-known women played in the Bible. The course is open to all; no prior knowledge is required. Including materials, the course is $190 for members and $260 for nonmembers.
