The nominations have been announced and we'll know in a few weeks who will be taking home an Oscar.
But not everyone who industry experts thought would be getting the early morning calls did.
Johnny Depp was expected to be battling against Leonardo DiCaprio for the Best Actor award. Depp stared as Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in "Black Mass."
But Depp had told Vanity Fair late last year that he didn't want to win the award.
But why?
"I don't want to have to talk," Depp told the magazine.
He added, "A nomination is plenty."
"The Martian" has been nominated for Best Picture and its lead actor, Matt Damon has a nod for Best Actor.
But the movie's director Ridley Scott didn't get picked this year.
The movie "Carol" had a few snubs. It was not picked for either Best Picture or Best Director.
But Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett both were picked for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress respectively.
