With names like Deep Fried Nacho Balls and Ultimate Bacon Explosion, the Iowa State Fair’s newest food offerings are all about culinary excess.
The fair’s offerings do cater to one diet trend: there will be a gluten-free corndog available at this year’s event.
The Ultimate Bacon Explosion is a meat lover’s dream. Brisket infused with jalapeno cheese is wrapped with bacon, smoked and slathered in barbecue sauce. (This offering is also gluten-free.)
Another new food highlight is Corn in a Cup, which features Iowa sweet corn mixed with chorizo, butter, chayote cheese, lime juice, sour cream, mayonnaise and a secret spice called “Magic Dust.”
There are plenty of new offerings for dessert. Fairgoers can enjoy Apple Pie On-a-Stick, Deep-Fried Cherry Pie, Donut Sundae and Golden-Fried Peanut Butter & Jelly on a Stick.
According to KCCI, the Iowa State Fair runs Aug. 13-23.
