The Spring Roll Lettuce Wrap at Tin Drum Asian Kitchen marries the crunch of fresh lettuce and herbs with the crunch of an eggroll. It’s a totally inspired combination and I’d love to make it for my family. Will they share the recipe? — Jack Terry, Decatur

Sylvia Chan, wife of Tin Drum Asian Kitchen Founder Stephen Chan, created this recipe that’s a take on a dish common in Southeast Asian countries like Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. It’s a great dish to make for your family because everyone assembles their own wrap, customizing the combination of ingredients to their taste.

Wraps like this are a seasonal dish at Tin Drum Asian Kitchen. You can do as they do at the restaurant and make these with premade fried spring rolls. We tried them with vegetable and chicken spring rolls we found in the frozen food section at the grocery store. Or buy veggie rolls or crab-and-cheese rolls from Tin Drum Asian Kitchen. Those rolls are available for takeout or delivery. Then all you need are the vegetables and sauce and a fresh dinner is ready in minutes.

Except for the lettuce leaves and spring rolls, all the other quantities are suggested and can be modified to your household’s taste. Want to try these with basil leaves? Add some slivered mango or apple? All delicious. Crispy fried shallots are available at Asian markets, or you may want to try your hand at making your own. They’re just very thinly fried shallots, deep fried in canola oil until crisp.

Any extra vinaigrette would make a delicious salad dressing on its own.
