The folks behind the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival are opening up the heart of Midtown for concerts and art installations today and every Tuesday and Thursday this month for free.
PNC Bank and festival organizers are hosting the "Arts in the Vineyard" series from noon until 1:30 p.m. today, June 21, June 23, June 28 and June 30 in the green space on 14th Street, between Peachtree and West Peachtree streets, according to the event's website.
Artists, many of whom are Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences fellows, and musicians will present during each lunchtime event in an area coined “Vineyard in the City,” the country’s first pop-up, urban vineyard.
“[The] Arts In the Vineyard series has given us a phenomenal opportunity to share a diverse range of artists with the Atlanta community,” Gary Sayers, spokesman for The Woodruff Arts Center, said in a written statement. "Just as importantly, this is a great opportunity to engage the entire Midtown community and create a sense of place in a very special way.”
Today’s performance will be courtesy of Ben Sollee, a cellist and composer hailing from Kentucky, and Lonnie Holley, a celebrated improvisational artists that blends visual art and music.
