Model, mom and social media darling, Chrissy Teigen recently revealed that she has been experiencing postpartum depression with the birth of her daughter Luna.

Teigen, who is married to singer John Legend, is known for being outspoken and uncensored -- she once showed off her "stretchies" (stretch marks) on social media, kept her condition secret until the revealing essay which appears in the April issue of Glamour magazine .

“I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone. I also don’t want to pretend like I know everything about postpartum depression, because it can be different for everybody. But one thing I do know is that—for me—just merely being open about it helps,” writes Teigen.

Postpartum depression is a condition that impacts one in nine women according to the CDC. Teigen said in the months after her daughter was born, she experienced irritability, loss of appetite and loss of energy which was later diagnosed as postpartum depression.

Teigen who is known for her social media food pix as well as a cookbook, said she would go days without eating and was very short-tempered with people around her. She would sometimes burst into tears, but she blamed her unhappiness on exhaustion and the possibility that it was time for her to outgrow her goofy persona. Initially, she was hesitant to share her experience.

“I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do,” she wrote.
