Let's be honest:
There is nothing shocking or surprising on the newly released tape capturing extremely crude and sexually brutal remarks by Donald Trump. It is entirely consistent with what we already know about the man's deeply disrespectful attitude toward other people in general and toward women in particular.
The only thing that should be the least surprising is that his remarks were caught on tape and took this long to surface.
“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago," Trump said in a statement in which he apologized "if anyone was offended." "Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close.”
Unless you were on the golf course with Trump and President Clinton, you cannot say with 100 percent certainty that he is lying. But let me reassure female readers: I grew up in a blue-collar/military/locker room environment. Been there, done that. I've laughed at dirty jokes and told a few from time to time. But the type of abusive, misogynistic, deeply disrespectful language used by Trump on that tape is by no means typical of adult male banter. Most men would walk away in disgust from anyone who talked like that about the women in their life.
However, it is precisely like Trump to try to take someone else down with him when he gets caught with his, well, equipment in a wringer. This is not a game-changer; it is a game-ender.
