Girls basketball teams at McEachern and Early County became the first in state-tournament history to break 100 points in a game Friday in the first round.

No. 1-ranked McEachern defeated Rockdale County 104-46 in a Class AAAAAA game. The 104 points are the most ever in a game in the 69-year-old girls state tournament, according to the Georgia Basketball Project. The previous record was set in Putnam County's 99-78 victory over Grady in 1990.

Also Friday, Early County defeated Westside of Augusta 101-94 in a Class AA game that went two overtimes. The 195 total points set a record, which had been 192 in Jones' County's 97-95 victory over Douglas County in 1995.

''Crazy,'' said Becky Taylor, the founder and researcher of the Georgia Basketball Project. ''The tournaments started in 1945 and have gone through 5,052 games before without a 100 team. Then there are two on a single night.''
