Georgia ranked fourth in players in the NFL this past season, and Atlanta ranked tied for second among metro areas, according to research published Wednesday by MaxPreps.
There were 105 former Georgia high school players on active rosters at the end of the season, according to MaxPreps.
Georgia High School Football Daily documented the state's active NFL players in September and arrived at similar numbers. (See that list here.)
MaxPreps did not release lists of all players with their states, but did provide data on the most players by state. Georgia trails California (235), Texas (201) and Florida (200).
The metro Atlanta statistical area accounts for 67 of Georgia’s 105. The Atlanta area is tied with Dallas-Fort Worth for second behind Los Angeles (134). MaxPreps used broad definitions of metro areas for all cities. For example, metro Atlanta includes Rome, Calhoun and Gainesville, among others.
Two Georgia high schools have four or more NFL players. They are Stephenson (five) and Statesboro (four).
