In 1948, the GHSA placed its member schools into classes and regions statewide for the first time. The first school to win 20 consecutive football games in the new era was West Point, a school in Troup County school that existed through the 1985-86 school year. West Point went 13-0 in 1948. Adding two wins from the tail end of 1947, and the Raiders' winning streak was 26, what might be called the modern GHSA record at the time. As a matter of trivia, one of West Point's players was Fob James, who would become governor of Alabama. Below is the evolution of the GHSA's longest winning streak from West Point to Buford. The current Buford team is working on a 42-game winning streak.
24 - West Point (1947-49)
29 - Decatur (1949-51)
30 - Valdosta (1956-58)
31 - Morgan County (1958-60)
37 - Valdosta (1960-63)
38 - Lincoln County (1976-78)
44 - Lincoln County (1989-91)
46 - Parkview (2000-03)
47 - Buford (2001-04)
