Calvary Day re-hired former coach Mark Stroud on Tuesday, just days after Rick Tomberlin resigned after one season, the Savannah Morning News reported.
Stroud was 67-25 from 2008 to 2015 at the Savannah private school and left for Swainsboro last season. His lone Swainsboro team finished 4-7.
Tomberlin, the former Valdosta and Washington County head coach, surprised many when he came out of three-year retirement last fall to take the reigns from Stroud. Calvary went 10-1. His top player was Nolan Smith, the sophomore all-state defensive end who since has transferred to IMG Academy in Florida and committed to Georgia.
Citing health concerns that re-emerged during the season, Tomberlin stepped down last week. His career coaching record, now probably complete, is 246-119 with three state titles in the 1990s at Washington County.
