A holiday weekend is directly ahead but not all the fun gatherings involve fireworks. This being the first weekend of July means it's time for the Marietta Square Art Walk, a celebration of a different sort held the first Friday of every month from April to November.
In addition to exhibits inside many of the historic square's galleries, museums, restaurants and other businesses, visitors will find artists exhibiting or performing outside the entrances of a number of participating venues from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday.
dk Gallery will use the occasion to open a group exhibit of landscapes and still lives, "Farm to Table."
Among other gallery participants, 2 Rules Fine Art will have Stanford Ashcraft demonstrating razor painting; and the artists of Red Door Gallery and Studio are offering a clearance sale.
Among the other Square businesses getting in on the Art Walk act, Lumiere Lounge & Piano Bar will present a screening of the 1920 silent film 'The Last of the Mohicans," along with vintage cocktails and live music.
In a category all its own, Lenny's Hair Salon will offer rockabilly music, Americana-themed art from DK, Red Door and Avery galleries and what it's billing as a "Red, White and Rock-A-Blues photo shoot," featuring pinups and hot rods (a 1960 Cadillac and a 1949 Ford).
