It seemed a little coincidental and Samsung's new Galaxy S7 and Edge phones and some of its new virtual-reality products would be launching on March 11, and now we know why. The company will have its typically large presence at South by Southwest Interactive and this year will be selling its phones at the festival in a a retail pop-up store downtown.
The Samsung Studio will be at 333 E. 2nd St., the home of Micheladas Café y Cantina, and will include a shop, a Samsung Pay Vending Machine dispensing prizes, panels that will include Skybound Entertainment and a Gear VR Experience area with 4D VR chairs, the company said Wednesday.
March 11 is the launch date for the phones as well as the Gear 360, a new camera for shooting 360-degree video. Samsung says it will be selling Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones that will also double as all-access passes to Samsung festival events, which will likely include music concerts. The event will coincide with Samsung 837, an event in New York's meatpacking district where SXSW Samsung events will be livestreamed.
In 2011, Apple famously opened a pop-up Apple Store downtown to sell its iPad 2 tablet as part of the device's launch.
