If you enjoy waking up to lots of warm sunshine and a clear sky, Saturday morning will not be for you.

All of North Georgia will be under a layer of fog, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said. The west and far north portions of the state will have to endure thicker patches, presenting potential driving hazards.

“If your travel plans take you west on I-20, especially early morning, be on the lookout there,” Burns said. “Here in the North Georgia mountains, very dense fog is possible in some of those mountain valleys.”

It’ll become easier to see as the afternoon approaches, but a few showers will pop up to take the fog’s place, Burns said. There will be a few passing light waves of isolated rain, but Burns said the showers will not be omnipresent.

“I wouldn’t cancel any plans outdoors,” he said. “There’s about a 30% chance ... of a passing shower.”

The light rain to ring in February seems apt after one of the wettest January’s in Georgia history. The Atlanta airport amassed nearly 8” of rain, which is almost double the typical average, Burns said.

While the rainfall hasn’t been average, temperatures this weekend will be about as normal as possible, especially Saturday. The morning low is 38 degrees, while the afternoon high is 53 degrees. Both marks are within three degrees of seasonal norms.

Sunday will warm up a little bit, with an expected high of 60 degrees, but temperatures will quickly increase at the beginning of the work week.

“We’re getting this big burst of warm air coming our way Monday. We’ll see temperatures approaching 70 degrees,” Burns said. “Yep, get ready. It’ll be a little touch of spring after this wedge of cold air breaks down.”

The warming trend will usher in a wave of stronger storms by mid-week, Channel 2 reported.
