Metro Atlanta residents can expect record highs through Halloween, according to Channel 2 Action News.

It was 71 degrees in Atlanta, 52 degrees in Blairsville and 62 degrees in Griffin shortly after 10 a.m.

Meteorologist Brian Monahan said temperatures are rising quickly and the record of 83 degrees, which was set in 1998, will be broken by a few degrees. The high for Sunday is 86 degrees, Monahan said.

“These temperatures are more like Labor Day then Halloween,” Monahan said.

The high of 85 degrees on Oct. 31 was set in 1961 and Monday’s expected high of 86 degrees would break that record, too.

Dry conditions and a lack of rain won’t help drought conditions throughout the state.

While a cold front may bring temps down a bit in coming days, temperatures are expected to be unseasonably high.

Tuesday’s high is 79 degrees, but by Thursday the high is expected to be back in the low 80s.
