First the good news.

“This is going to be the warmest day of our week,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Now the bad.

A cold front will bring showers to metro Atlanta overnight.

The rain approached the northwestern edge of Georgia about 7 p.m. and made its way into the state by 9 p.m. Showers were expected to hit most metro areas between 11 p.m. and midnight. Metro Atlanta could hear some rumbles of thunder.

“Currently the models do not put us in a severe risk,” Minton said. “But we could get that strong, gusty wind out there for later tonight.”

Showers will start rolling out of Atlanta about 4 a.m. Tuesday and heading toward Gainesville and Athens. By 9 a.m., only isolated sprinkles and clouds will remain in metro Atlanta.

Temperatures were 61 degrees in Atlanta, 58 degrees in Blairsville and 59 degrees in Griffin just before 9 p.m. Monday.

The pollen count, which dropped this weekend, continued falling to 69 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Monday. That was well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.

“The weekend,” Minton said, “will shake it up a little bit.”
