The wind is here to stay, but with it should come dry weather for the Labor Day weekend.
Currently, the temperature is 79 degrees in Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News reported. The high Friday was 82.
Highs are expected to remain in the 80s for the three-day holiday weekend, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
A wind advisory took effect at 4:15 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service said. Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb and Douglas counties are part of the advisory, which is set to last through 8 p.m. Wind speeds could reach 40 mph.
Fulton County isn’t under a wind advisory but could see wind gusts up to 25 mph.
Heavy rain that moved into metro Atlanta on Friday has subsided. Remnants of Tropical Depression Harvey contributed to the local conditions.
The system, which made landfall last Friday as a Category 4 hurricane, has led to more than 46 deaths, devastating rainfall and rainfall records.
The next time Atlanta could see rain is Wednesday, when there is a 40 percent chance of showers following a cold front.
But until then, the metro area should stay mostly dry.
“It’s going to feel absolutely wonderful,” Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
Temperatures should dip into the mid-60s late Friday, and it will remain cloudy with decreasing winds, Burns said. Expect the same conditions early Saturday.
It should still be in the 70s Saturday night when Alabama and Florida State face off at 8 p.m. in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at new Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Georgia hosts Appalachian State in Athens at 6:15 p.m.
Saturday’s high should reach 83 degrees with very few clouds, Channel 2 reported. Sunny conditions should continue through Labor Day, with a high of 85 on Sunday and 86 on Monday.
