The former Tennessee teacher who is accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student is requesting a new trial date.
Attorneys for 50-year-old Tad Cummins said they want his trial date (set for July 25) pushed back to allow time for more research, plea discussions, and discovery.
Those attorneys want the trial moved back to January, 2018.
Cummins is accused of kidnapping his student, having a sexual relationship with her, and fleeing the state.

The two were missing for about a month before being found living in a remote area of California after a tipster called in their location.

If convicted, Cummins faces a minimum of ten years in prison.
