An Olympic medalist swimmer is set to compete against world class competition … and she’s 24 weeks pregnant.
According to NBC Sports, seven-time Olympic medalist Dana Vollmer, 29, announced on social media she will compete at the USA Swimming Pro Series in Mesa, Arizona, next month.
Vollmer, who has been open about her intent to compete while pregnant with her second child, will race in the 50-meter freestyle at the event. She gave birth to her first child, a boy named Arlen, in March 2016, but took time off from swimming during that pregnancy.
Despite taking 23 months off before and during the pregnancy, Vollmer earned a spot on the 2016 Olympic team in Rio and won a bronze, silver and gold medal.
In the social media post, Vollmer, who is due in July, said that she had been “having dreams about being at competitions.”
The USA Swimming Pro Series event will be held from April 13-15.
