The city of Woodstock is moving toward replacing Councilwoman Tessa Basford, who died of cancer earlier this fall.
The Woodstock City Council Monday night instructed staff to prepare an ordinance setting a March 17 special election to fill Basford’s seat. That’s the earliest of three possible special election dates next year.
Basford took office in 2010 to fill out the unexpired term of Steve Faris, then was elected to a full term in 2011. The city has signed a contract with Cherokee County elections officials to handle the actual voting.
Tentative plans call for final approval of the election-setting measure in mid-December, followed by qualifying Jan. 14-16. Any necessary runoff would happen in late April.
