A DeKalb County Schools tribunal recommended termination for a teacher who admitted he allowed students to have sex in a storage room next to his classroom at Champion Theme Middle School.

The group also sent information to the Professional Standards Commission, which could strip Quentin Wright of his license to teach.

Wright, 25, a basketball coach and math and science teacher at Champion, was charged last week with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A parent came forward with text messages showing Wright had arranged for her 14-year-old to use the storage closet for a tryst with another student.

Michael Walker, executive legal counsel for the school district, said the investigation so far has come across 10 students with knowledge of the goings on, and at least four known to have used the room for sexual activity.

Walker said Wright admitted to a district police department detective that he allowed students to use the storage room for sex, that he gave a condom to one student ahead of a sexual encounter in the room and that he purchased condoms for other students.

In one instance, two students were holed up in the storage closet more than 90 minutes while Wright was in his classroom, Walker said.

Wright submitted a letter of resignation on May 19, but superintendent Michael Thurmond refused to accept it. That set up the tribunal hearing to make a decision on the matter.

The criminal investigation into Wright’s alleged misconduct is still under way, and more charges could result.
