Ponce de Leon Avenue reopened Tuesday after a gas leak had shut down traffic in both directions at Penn Avenue and west of Argonne Avenue, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Businesses and an apartment complex in the area were evacuated, authorities said.

A construction crew struck a gas line, causing the leak. Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford said there were “high levels of gas readings” in the area.
