A 2-year-old metro Atlanta boy who was hit by a tree limb more than three months ago continued to recover Saturday after emergency surgery to deal with a serious infection, according to his family.

Tripp Halstead had undergone emergency surgery on Thursday to deal with life-threatening bacterial meningitis and other complications, according to postings on a Facebook page where his family posts updates on his condition.

“Tripp is still having a good day. They are slowly trying to wake him up so we will see how that goes,” his mother, Stacy Halstead, said in a message posted to the site Saturday afternoon. However, she asked people to refrain from calling or visiting the hospital and instead check for updates on the Facebook page.

Another posting earlier in the day on the page said “the antibiotics seem to be working” and that the medical team expected the toddler to be taken off a ventilator and breathing on his own later in the day.

Halstead has been hospitalized since Oct. 29, when he was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He suffered a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a tree limb outside his Barrow County daycare.
