Q: Where was 6th Congressional District candidate Karen Handel born and what are her college degrees? Can you please provide information about her involvement with the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation?

—Hank Collier, Dunwoody

A: Handel was born in Washington, D.C. She attended Prince George's Community College in Largo, Md., as well as the University of Maryland's University College, but does not have a degree, her spokeswoman, Kate Constantini, told Q&A on the News via email.

She does not have any current involvement with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research. She resigned from her role as vice president for public policy for the nonprofit in 2012, following the organization’s policy change, which was later reversed, that would have barred Komen from funding Planned Parenthood. Handel is running in the 6th Congressional District special election April 18 to succeed former U.S. Rep. Tom Price.
