A 15-year-old boy died Wednesday afternoon after falling off his dirt bike in Gwinnett County.
The teenager, visiting from out of town, was riding dirt bikes with a cousin off Arcado Road when investigators believe he fell off after crossing a small creek, Capt. Thomas Bardugon with Lilburn police said.
“It appears that he may have been trying to jump it or he may have been going fast enough that he didn’t realize there was a sudden drop and a creek there,” Bardugon said. “He came to a sudden stop on the side of the embankment and he hit it head-on.”
The teenager’s cousin, who was not injured, was riding a few seconds behind and told police he saw the dirt bike flipping in the air. Investigators believe the teenager may have broken his neck in the crash. He died before police and firefighters arrived.
The teenager’s name was not released, pending notification to his parents, Bardugon said.
