The summer pattern of showers and storms will continue Sunday, according to the latest forecast.
With a 60% chance of rain, the second half of the weekend is expected to be rather soggy, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists said.
The morning is off to a relatively dry start, with temperatures falling comfortably in the mid- and upper 70s.
That’ll last until about noon, Channel 2 meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said.
“During the morning we will be in decent shape,” she said. “A lot of clouds, a lot of humidity, but the temperatures will stay in the 70s and most of the rain will stay away from us until after lunchtime.”
Come 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., heavier thunderstorms and downpours will move into the metro, Lopez said. Those are expected to last through the night and into Monday morning.
The wet weather will keep high those high temperatures in check, Lopez said. Temperatures on Sunday are expected to cap out at 86 degrees.
Drivers may face some delays coming through metro Atlanta as construction projects continue throughout the weekend.
Three right lanes of I-285 westbound are closed at Riverdale Road while crews are at the scene.
“Allow extra time if headed to the Atlanta Airport today,” the Traffic Center said.
