About 200 Georgia Army National Guardsmen who recently returned from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan are scheduled to attend a welcome home ceremony in Macon next week.

The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team troops helped shut down U.S. military bases around Kabul and turn them over to the Afghan government amid the U.S. military’s efforts to draw down its forces there. The unit suffered no fatalities.

The Guardsmen flew into Fort Dix, N.J., Saturday. They are scheduled to attend their return ceremony Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the brigade’s headquarters, 1030 Shurling Drive in Macon. Their families, senior Guard officer and local and state government officials also plan to attend.
