A Paulding County standoff ended Saturday afternoon after a man who had barricaded himself inside a home south of Dallas surrendered.

Paulding County sheriff’s deputies and a SWAT team were called to the residence on Marshall Full Road off Highway 61 around 10 a.m. after the unidentified man allegedly attacked his father. A niece of the victim, Brandy Hawkins, identified the father as Jimmy Allen, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Sheriff’s spokesman Col. Jim Walker told Channel 2 Action News the father fled the home to a nearby fire station. He was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment, Walker said.

Hawkins said her uncle suffered stab wounds to the neck, shoulder and lower back but was out of surgery Saturday. He’s doing “very, very good,” she told Channel 2.

Hawkins said there did not appear to be a specific incident that triggered the attack. The suspect, who surrendered just after 1 p.m. Saturday, is described as bi-polar.

At one point deputies thought he may have had a gun, but they did not confirm whether one was found.
